The Crown Jewel of Keystone: A Mural Marathon in the Mountains
In February, we joined a group of incredible real estate investors for the Subto Ski Trip—a weekend of snow, strategy, and straight-up fun in Keystone, Colorado. We stayed in a luxury short-term rental known as The Crown Jewel of Keystone, a stunning home that sleeps 20+ and lives up to its name in every way.
It was during that weekend—between skiing, hot tub hangs, and business masterminding—that we met the owners of the property, Traci and Aaron Tattersall, fellow Subto members and first-time STR investors based in Denver. We instantly hit it off and started talking design…specifically, the untapped potential of their indoor pool room.
A Vision Months in the Making
Fast forward to the last week of May 2025, and we were back in Keystone with brushes in hand, ready to bring our vision to life. Over the course of seven days, we painted three custom murals that completely transformed the pool room from a blank white box into an immersive, storytelling-filled space guests will never forget.
The pool area is the heart of the home’s fun zone—and now it looks like it. Think: color, movement, and bold visual interest that gives guests those “I have to take a picture here” vibes. Exactly what a standout Airbnb listing needs.
The Process: Long Days, Saltwater Splashes & Last-Minute Hail Marys
This was one of the most intense mural projects we’ve taken on to date:
🖌️ 3 large murals
⏳ 7 days of painting, 8–10 hours a day
🎨 Dozens of paint cans
🛠️ 6+ supply runs
🌊 1 last-minute emergency sealing mission
On the last night after finishing the murals an having a celebratory swimming splash, we realized that saltwater splashing from the pool could eventually wear down the paint. Even though we used high-quality indoor paints, sealing became a must. On our very last night, we ran to the hardware store minutes before it closed, grabbed what we could, and sealed the entire mural set into the night. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the job done—and the art is now protected.
It was a marathon. And we were exhausted. But it was so worth it.
Beyond the Paint: Audio Books & Big Picture Clarity
One of our favorite parts about mural trips? The time to learn while we work. While painting in Keystone, we listened to three powerhouse business books:
Each book gave us lightbulb moments that we’ve already started applying to Let’s Go Design Co. These mural weeks are like bootcamps for our creativity, our business, and our brains.
The Final Result
We’re so proud of how the murals turned out—and incredibly grateful to Traci and Aaron for trusting us with their vision. These pieces bring personality, vibrancy, and a serious upgrade to their Airbnb’s guest experience.
